About ORUMA
ORUMA (Our Riverstone United Malayalee Association) was founded in 2008 by a small group of visionary families who sought to create a close-knit community for Malayalees in the Riverstone area. What began as a humble initiative of a few like-minded neighbors has flourished over nearly two decades into a vibrant association of over 200 families.
At our core, ORUMA is dedicated to preserving the rich traditions of Kerala and ensuring that our strong cultural roots and family values are successfully passed down to the second generation.
Celebration and Connection
Life at ORUMA is defined by the joy of togetherness. We host a variety of annual events that keep our spirits high and our bonds tight, including:
- Onam Celebrations: Bringing the vibrant colors, flavors, and spirit of Kerala to Riverstone.
- Annual Picnics: Casual outdoor gatherings designed to foster lifelong friendships among members.
- Christmas & New Year: Celebrating the season of giving with music, dance, and community cheer.
A Powerful Voice in the Community
ORUMA is more than a social club; we are a civic force. We believe in active participation to ensure Riverstone remains a safe and thriving place to live. Our members are deeply involved in:
- Local Advocacy: Leading the charge on critical issues such as school rezoning and traffic safety, including successful efforts for the installation of vital traffic lights.
- Political Engagement: Organizing “Meet and Greet” sessions with community and government leaders who listen to our values and interests.
- Representation: Ensuring that the Malayalee community’s voice is heard and respected at all levels of local government.
